BIG TURNAROUND FOR
CHRIS SCRIBNER
Source Jeannie Broussal
Roseville, CA - It's amazing what can happen when you have good
chemistry between a driver, crew chief and crew. Chris Scribner, driver
of the No. 51 Heritage Hotel Group Late Model, has struggled since he
began his Late Model career in 2009, but with the addition of crew chief
Tim Gillette a few weeks ago, Scribner has kicked his racing into high
gear.
"I interviewed a lot of people for the job of crew chief," Scribner
said. "I picked the one where the chemistry was right for me and my
family/crew. That's important to us."
In the last four races, Scribner has 2 third-place finishes, 1
fourth-place and 1 fifth-place finish. He was the number one qualifier
August 14 for the Twin 44 races.
Scribner says the next step for the team is winning. "That's what I am
accustomed to. Our goal is to be the team to beat," he said.
Born and raised in Sacramento, Scribner grew up racing go-karts on area
dirt tracks. He ranked third in the nation in 2008, and he has won
multiple karting championships with over 100 wins. He represented Team
USA in Spain at the IAME International Challenge for two years.
Scribner has been around racing his whole life. Scribner's dad, Rick
Scribner, raced Sprint Cars for many years and raced in Winston West.
Scribner Motorsports, the family business, manufactures go-kart engine
containers, go-kart track barriers and plastic bodies for go-karts.
Having accomplished everything he could in go-karts, Scribner went
looking for something new. He bought an original Phil Perry Late Model
car. It's a 1989 car and Scribner says it's been a long road to get it
in working order.
He said he's had chassis problems throughout 2009. He thought a good
driver could overcome that, but he now knows that is not the case. "You
cannot overcome a bad handling chassis," Scribner said. "Now, after
spending time getting the chassis worked out, I can drive the way I want
to."
Scribner says he loves the racing environment at All American Speedway.
"Roseville has a family atmosphere. We have always raced as a family and
that's the way I like it," he said. "The Mansch's, the Scotts, the
Henrys, they all race as families. Being pitted next to the Mansch's, we
help each other. It's almost like we are teammates."
"The fans are the same way. They come as a family and that's the fun
part of racing," he said.
